Audience

1) Who is the target audience for Doctor Who? Has it changed since 1963
Long-running which shows it appeals to masses (12-40) and the reboot helped gain younger fans.

2) What audience psychographic groups might particularly enjoy Doctor Who
Young teens 

3) What audience pleasures are offered by An Unearthly Child?
 Apply Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory to the episode. Make sure you provide specific examples from the episode to support your ideas.
during the time the audience would of reacted differently in the 1960s  
Personal relationships:
As an audience I want to carry on watching Doctor who to see what happens to Susan further on in the show 

Diversion (Escapism):
The target audience is using doctor who as a source of escapism such as family issue and money problems   
Surveillance (Information / Facts):
Doctor who gives learning information about science, history and education about space travel 
4) What additional Uses and Gratifications would this episode provide to a modern 2020 audience?
A 20202 audience may find the story sexist as the man plays the hero, the girl plays the victim and theres another male figure which plays the villain which is typical for the story line to be this way , this would now be seen  as sexist because a girl is being saved by a man and not the other way round 
5) Thinking of the 3 Vs audience pleasures (Visceral, Vicarious and Voyeuristic pleasures), which of these can be applied to An Unearthly Child?
We can apply Blumler and Katz’s uses and gratifications theory when analysing the audience pleasures offered by dodger who an unearthly child  

Industries

1) What was the television industry like in 1963? How many channels were there?
The television industry was very limited as there were two channels in the 1960s 

2) Why is Doctor Who such an important franchise for the BBC? 
Doctor who was the most popular show through out the years this also meant that bbc made millions of pounds throughout the years of Doctor who it was also one of the largest broadcast and employees (over 20,000)
3) How does Doctor Who meet the BBC's mission statement to 'inform, educate and entertain'?
It reflects United Kingdom it’s culture and it’s value to the world furthermore it produces creative output to the audiences  
4) How is the BBC funded?
The funding comes from the audiences as bcc licence fee payers whereas other channels rely on advertising and sponsorship 

5) Who regulates the BBC and what is the watershed? 
has a board of governing members and is independent of government intervention.  This means that it can produce content free impartially.
